Characterization of Coloured Gemstones by X-ray Micro Computed Tomography

چکیده
The monetary value of gemstones is based on five variables: rarity, cut, weight, color and clarity. latter refers to internal impurities defects. Fashion may also dictate demand price. To enhance some these features value, are treated. Disclosure or nondisclosure thereof has been controversial affected consumer confidence. Most treatments difficult detect with the naked eye accurately quantify traditional optical analytical methods. X-ray micro computed tomography (micro-CT μCT) proposed as a relatively low cost, physically non-destructive complementary method clarity enhancement provide unique 3D fingerprint each gemstone. A collection 14 cut colored was selected. Micro-CT scans allowed fracture detection, their distribution calculation filler volume well mapping inclusions, surface imperfections artificially induced modifications. As result allows construction digital twin. exposure could however induce unwanted changes. This effect minimized eliminated by optimizing dosage time.

Micro-computed tomography (μCT) has been successfully used to study the cardiovascular system of mouse embryos in situ. With the use of barium as a suitablecontrast agent, blood vessels have beenimaged and analysed quantitatively such asblood volume and vessel sizes on embryosof ages 14.5 to 16.5 days old. The advantageof using this imaging modality is that it hasprovide...
متن کاملImpact of Photon Spectra on the Sensitivity of Polymer Gel Dosimetry by X-Ray Computed Tomography
Introduction: The purpose of the current study was to investigate the effect of X-ray spectra on the sensitivity of a polymer gel dosimeter imaged with a conventional computed tomography (CT) scanner. Material and Methods: The whole process of CT imaging of an irradiated polymer gel was simulated by MCNPX Monte Carlo (MC) code. The imaging of polyacrylamide gel was accomplished by means of a co...
متن کاملQuantification of eggshell microstructure using X-ray micro computed tomography
1. X-ray microcomputed tomography can be used to produce rapid, fully analysable, three-dimensional images of biological and other materials without the need for complex or tedious sample preparation and sectioning. We describe the use of this technique to visualise and analyse the microstructure of fragments of shell taken from three regions of chicken eggs (sharp pole, blunt pole and equatori...
متن کاملX-ray computed tomography.
X-ray computed tomography (CT), introduced into clinical practice in 1972, was the first of the modern slice-imaging modalities. To reconstruct images mathematically from measured data and to display and to archive them in digital form was a novelty then and is commonplace today. CT has shown a steady upward trend with respect to technology, performance and clinical use independent of predictio...
متن کاملX-ray computed micro tomography as complementary method for the characterization of activated porous ceramic preforms
X-ray computed micro tomography (CT) is an alternative technique to the classical methods such as mercury intrusion (MIP) and gas pycnometry (HP) to obtain the porosity, pore-size distribution, and density of porous materials. Besides the advantage of being a nondestructive method, it gives not only bulk properties, but also spatially resolved information. In the present work, uniaxially presse...
